Human Rights Month to be held in Azerbaijan

Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva has appealed to state and local self-government bodies, scientific, educational and medical institutions, and civil society institutions in connection with the announcement of Human Rights Month, Report informs.

The appeal says that the Month will be held on the eve of the Human Rights Day in Azerbaijan from May 18 to June 18.

The appeal notes that the primary purpose of holding the Human Rights Month is to strengthen activities in the field of protection and promotion of human rights, inform the public about achievements, outline upcoming tasks to eliminate existing problems, as well as develop legal thinking and legal culture of the population, bringing to attention the inadmissibility of discrimination.

By order of President Ilham Aliyev dated June 18, 2007, the Day of Human Rights is celebrated annually on this date in Azerbaijan.
