"The mine issue still remains. Along with civilians, workers and the military are also affected by landmines in the liberated areas," Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, told reporters.
The presidential aide stressed that this is yet another example of Armenia's hateful policy against Azerbaijan pursued for many years,
"At the same time, it means pursuing a hateful policy by other means. The main goal of Armenia in the mass mining of these territories is to prevent the construction processes and return of our IDPs to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan and achieve maximum mortality among civilians and military personnel of Azerbaijan. Everyone understands the purpose of the minefields. Regardless of the position and status of the people, mines are waiting for their victims. It is a terrible tragedy, sometimes standing there for years, waiting for its catastrophic consequences. Unfortunately, Armenia has also polluted Azerbaijani territories with mines. Azerbaijan has also raised this issue with the international community. We want to appeal once again to the international community to raise awareness on this issue. Support for Azerbaijan's demining activities should be increased. Support from the UN and its agencies is especially needed," Hajiyev said.
“Each of us is in danger of a mine. Much depends on our citizens. Our citizens must be careful when going to the liberated territories. Anyone can be a potential victim of a mine,” he added.
