CoE platform expressed support for Azerbaijani media outlets blocked in Russia

An appeal regarding the blocking of several Azerbaijani media outlets by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media of Russia (Roskomnadzor) has been posted on a special platform of the Council of Europe, The Platform for the Protection of Journalism and Safety of Journalists, Report informs.

Chairman of the Union of Journalists Mushfig Alasgarli, who signed the appeal, said that it was taken into consideration by influential global media organizations, which demonstrate solidarity with Azerbaijani journalists:

"Our appeal is also posted on The Platform for the Protection of Journalism and Safety of Journalists of the Council of Europe with reference to the International Federation of Journalists, the International Press Institute and the European Federation of Journalists. Placing our appeal on the CoE platform means that the issue has reached the level of international interstate organizations. This platform is an important source cited by international media, legal and human rights organizations."

"Solidarity with Azerbaijani journalists has been demonstrated. The International Federation of Journalists, the International Press Institute, the European Federation of Journalists and many other organizations, reacting positively to the appeal of Azerbaijani journalists, condemned the step taken by Russia. Posting news contributes to informing the world community," Mushfig Alasgarli said.

Several Azerbaijani media outlets (Oxu.az, Haqqin.az, Minval.az, Musavat.com, etc.) have been blocked in Russia by Roskomnadzor, which caused a justified protest in Azerbaijan's media community. About 10 Azerbaijani media organizations issued a statement on March 28. They appealed to the relevant state bodies of Russia with a call to revoke the decision and urged international media structures to show solidarity and condemn this fact.
