Baku hosted the International Volunteers Forum of Islamic Countries.

According to Report, the event brought together 80 delegations from 42 countries.

The forum organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports as part of the Year of Volunteers is aimed to promote volunteer activities among young people and to expand their relations of international cooperation.

Speaking at the event, Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov said the volunteer movement boasts more than 100 years of history.

"In the beginning, volunteers were mostly servicemen, and they were involved in rescue and support activities. Today, the principles of voluntarism have changed, and volunteers work in social spheres, sports, culture, the environment, and other areas."

According to him, Azerbaijan is one of the countries that actively supports volunteering.

"Azerbaijan adopted a law 'On volunteering' in 2009. Today, the number of volunteers is growing rapidly in our country. They take an active part in various international events."
