Central Election Commission chief: 1,329 people run for parliament in Azerbaijan

"1,329 people have applied for participation in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for February 9, 2020, in Azerbaijan," Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov said at the CEC meeting today.

According to Report, he added that 15 political parties nominated 262 candidates: "11 are nominated from initiative groups, and 1,056 are independent candidates."

Panahov said the nomination of 1,042 applicants had been approved: "Of them, 829 have already received their signature sheets. Sixty returned them, and one was registered. Twenty-nine people withdrew their candidacies from the elections."
