"The United States is currently the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the world in terms of deaths and infections. The number of victims of the epidemic in the country exceeded 42 thousand, and up to 793 thousand people have contracted the virus. However, our compatriots living in the United States, even in such difficult moments, try to support each other."

Irada Akhundova, President of the Houston-Baku Sister City Association told Report.

Speaking about the current situation in the city of Houston, Texas, Akhundova noted that the condition in the town is relatively good compared to other cities: "In the state of Texas, 190 thousand people tested positive for coronavirus, 1,411 of them receive treatment in hospitals, while 495 - died. There is no special quarantine regime, and you can go out to the city at any time. People keep a social distance, wear masks and gloves. There are no members of the Azerbaijani community infected with the coronavirus."

According to her, local governments and governors in US have the right to vote and decide when cities will come out of quarantine.

Akhundova noted that she regularly contacts Azerbaijanis in Houston, who need support: "Our compatriots who need support and assistance are in the center of attention."

The head of the association said the Azerbaijani Embassy in US is working in an enhanced mode: "We are in regular contact with the Azerbaijani community in New York, Miami, Washington, and other cities. Every Friday, with the organization of the American-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC), the embassy and community members are contacted live via Facebook. Sometimes, the ambassador of Azerbaijan to the USA, Elin Suleymanov, participates in these conversations.
