Azerbaijanis appeal to UK government and international organizations

The Society of British Azerbaijanis in the United Kingdom, the International Azerbaijani Society, and the United Kingdom-Azerbaijan Alliance have appealed to international organizations to protest Armenia's inadmissible behavior regarding mine maps, State Committee on Work with Diaspora told Report.

The appeal was made on behalf of Farida Panahova and Vugar Akhundov to the British Foreign Affairs Committee, HALO Trust, offices of the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch in the United Kingdom. It drew attention to the facts that Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity after the 44-day war. However, our compatriots, who have been displaced from their native lands for almost 30 years, are still unable to return home: “The Armenian armed forces have placed numerous mines in the liberated territories. Mines are like an invisible killer.”

According to the appeal, Azerbaijan has taken some serious steps in this direction and tried to eliminate this threat, but Azerbaijani citizens traveling to the liberated territories are killed or injured because of mines.

Azerbaijanis called on international organizations to force Armenia to hand over the map of minefields to Azerbaijan with: “If the Azerbaijani government spends the funds allocated by financial funds for the demining project on the rehabilitation of the Karabakh region, there will be ensured normal living conditions in a short time.”
