Speaker of the Latvian Parliament Daiga Mierina, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan, has expressed hope that the pearl of the Caucasus, the city of Shusha, will be revived as soon as possible, Report informs.
She was speaking during the presentation of the cultural heritage of Latvia in Azerbaijan “Julijs Straume -150: Ornaments across cultures”, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Latvian textile artist Julijs Straume.
“I had the opportunity to visit the Karabakh region, this trip was very emotional and touching. Our artist Julijs Straume lived in this region and taught at school. I sincerely hope that the pearl of the Caucasus, Shusha, will be reborn as soon as possible,” she said.
According to the speaker, formally this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Azerbaijan.
“But, looking back, we can say that our cultural ties have a much longer history. The opening of this exhibition is another evidence of our cooperation in this area,” Mierina added.
