Inclusion of Palace of Shaki Khans in UNESCO World Heritage List to make Azerbaijan more popular in the world

"UNESCO World Heritage List is an international heritage list. The introduction of the ancient part of Shaki, the upper main state historical architecture reserve and Palace of Shaki Khans to UNESCO's World Heritage List will further promote Azerbaijan in the world".

Head of the Department for Protection and Restoration of Architectural Monuments of the Institute of Architecture and Art of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Rahiba Aliyeva told Report.

According to her, the monuments included in the list are not only the heritage of country they belong to, but also the heritage of the whole world: "Therefore, the monuments included in this list should be protected by the world. The positive side for Azerbaijan is that the monument in our country will be protected by the world. Along with the Palace of Shaki Khans and Historical Center of Shaki, “Icheri Sheher, Maiden Tower and Palace of the Shirvanshahs” and “Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape” are also included in the World Heritage List. Earlier Azokh Cave was also included in this list, but later was removed. Because Armenians put forward claim of ownership. That's why the fate of this monument is under question.

Inclusion of Palace of Shaki Khans in UNESCO World Heritage List will be protected under UNESCO's control. At the same time, our country, our monuments and our nation will be recognized worldwide. Thus, our history will spread all over the world. "
