Bust of prominent Azerbaijani geologist unveiled at Moscow university

A bust of the famous Azerbaijani geologist, Doctor of Geology and Mineralogy, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Socialist Labor Farman Salman, has been unveiled at the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting, Report informs.

The author of the bust is People's Artist of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev.

Opening the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu thanked the leadership of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and President of the Foundation, First Vice President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva, for her remarkable contribution to strengthening relations between the two countries.

"The Heydar Aliyev Foundation implements many projects in Russia - repairs schools, erects monuments, and holds various events. The geography of the Foundation's activity is vast, from Astrakhan and Volgograd to St. Petersburg. Today, a bust of Farman Salmanov is unveiled at the Russian State Geological Prospecting University," the ambassador said.

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for its long-term efforts to promote Azerbaijan's outstanding achievements.

The minister noted that the discovery of giant oil and gas fields in the Tyumen region of Western Siberia is associated with Farman Salmanov: "He is the most productive geologist in the history of the world who participated in the discovery of large oil and gas fields."

Vagif Karimov, head of a department at the university, honored geologist of Russia, laureate of the Academician I. M. Gubkin prize, noted that the opening of the auditorium named after Farman Salmanov and his bust was a significant event for the university. He said that Farman Salmanov had discovered more than 130 oil and gas fields in the Tyumen region, and some of these fields were unique in terms of reserves and product quality.

Vice-rector of the university Yuri Panov also thanked the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and said that the auditorium named after Farman Salmanov will be open for all students who will study the experience of the famous Azerbaijani geologist.

The event was also attended by relatives and friends of the famed geologist.
