John Salong: Accelerating adaptation action critical for vulnerable countries

Accelerating adaptation actions is a critically important step for the most vulnerable countries, particularly small island developing states and least developed countries, John Salong, the minister of climate action and adaptation of Vanuatu, said at the Climate and Development Ministerial (C&DM) during the second day of Pre-COP29 in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that the global community is 'on the brink of an abyss,' which makes adaptation to new realities even more important.

"One step forward without adequate financial adaptation entails irreversible climate losses and damage to our countries. This concerns livelihoods, cultural identity, and essentially our very lives," he said.

Salong thanked Azerbaijan for its active work as part of its presidency at COP29, and called on parties to expand climate financing.

"I appeal to you with a call to focus on solutions and bridge the gap between commitments and real actions. The time has come to implement reforms in our countries that will allow for more effective progress in the area of adaptation financing," he added.
