Limiting global temperature to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will require a rapid acceleration of the global energy shift, IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera said at a panel session during the second day of Pre-COP29 in Baku.
He noted that 2023 was another record year for renewable energy.
"IRENA data showed that 473 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity were added, which is 87% of new capacity, increasing global renewable energy capacity to nearly 3.9 terawatts," he said.
