By having hosted the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Azerbaijan, a fossil fuel producer and exporter, demonstrates the government’s strategy to take serious action on climate change, Pakistani analyst and expert on Central Asia Muhammad Ali Pasha told Report.
“The envisioned COP29 holds the promise of being more than a conference centered on discourse; it aspires to be a forum where decisive decisions are made and concerted actions are taken. If realized, this gathering in Baku would present an opportune moment for Azerbaijan and participating nations to collaboratively address pressing environmental challenges and forge a path toward sustainable solutions. The potential hosting of COP29 by Azerbaijan underscores the nation’s proactive role in advancing global initiatives aimed at mitigating climate change and fostering green practices.”
Muhammad Ali Pasha emphasized that by hosting an important global conference, Azerbaijan demonstrates its international authority and commitment to the environmental agenda, thereby strengthening its role as an active and influential player on the world stage.
“The prospect of hosting COP29 in 2024 stands as a significant triumph for President Ilham Aliyev, representing one of the largest and most pivotal interstate conferences to be held in Azerbaijan.
