ESCAP: Investment in renewable energy infrastructure must be increased

It is necessary to increase investments to combat the negative effects of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region, including investments in renewable energy infrastructure, Armida Salsiah, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), said at a high-level roundtable on green digital actions organized within the framework of COP29 in Baku.

According to Report, she noted that while the region has significant economic and social benefits from using digital technologies, many unresolved issues remain in the context of climate change and "green transition."

"It is important to invest in smart grid systems and renewable energy infrastructure. The Green Digital Declaration plays a key role in promoting digital innovation and combating climate change in our region," she added.

Salsiah also thanked the government of Azerbaijan for organizing this important climate conference.
