The Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Georgia, Oljas Bektenov and Irakli Kobakhidze, respectively, discussed bilateral cooperation in transporting oil and petroleum products to global markets during their meeting in Astana today, Report informs, citing the Kazakhstani government.
In 2024, 1.4 million tons of Kazakh oil were transported through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. The goal is to gradually increase this annual transportation volume to 2.2 million tons.
The prime ministers also addressed expanding transit and transport cooperation by unlocking the potential of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor. As a result of recent measures, the transportation capacity of the Middle Corridor is expected to reach 10 million tons per year by 2027. The importance of establishing competitive tariff conditions, reducing delivery times, and increasing cargo volumes along the route was emphasized.
Bektenov informed Kobakhidze that in 2024, the volume of transportation via TITR increased by 62% to 4.5 million tons. To further enhance the route's potential, Kazakhstan is improving infrastructure, port, and terminal capacities, removing administrative barriers, and creating favorable conditions for carriers.
"The Kazakhstan government is determined to continue multifaceted work to ensure the dynamic development of the Kazakhstan-Georgia partnership in all directions," Bektenov emphasized.
