Baku hosting Azerbaijan-Japan Investment Forum

The Azerbaijan-Japan Investment Forum organized by the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) (ASK) has kicked off in Baku today.

The confederation's President Mammad Musayev opened the event, Report informs.

Musayev noted that the construction work is being successfully continued in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, and the "Smart Village" and "Smart City" projects are being implemented with the use of the latest technological innovations.

"The construction work carried out in Karabakh and East Zangazur following modern urban planning standards creates excellent investment opportunities for economic recovery and revival. Undoubtedly, Japanese investors will be informed about these opportunities at today's event," Musayev said.

According to the ASK president, Japanese companies are active in the energy (oil and gas) sector of Azerbaijan, support environmental and infrastructure projects in Azerbaijan, and are closely involved in the training of Azerbaijani specialists.

"In 2020, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Japan amounted to $200 million. TET International Development, founded by Japanese investors, is one of the active members of ASK. Over the past two years, the company has invested more than $10 million in opening four tobacco processing plants in Zagatala, Sheki, Oghuz and Tovuz districts, he added.

Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva, Head of the Economics Department of the Embassy of Japan in Azerbaijan Amada Shunichi, First Deputy Chairman of the Small and Medium Business Development Agency under the Ministry of Economy Natig Hasanov, Head of TET International Development Taro Savada also attended the Azerbaijan-Japan Investment Forum.

Earlier last month, the first group of Japanese investors paid a business visit to Azerbaijan. ASK acquainted them with Azerbaijan's investment opportunities and supported their meetings in Sheki and Zagatala. As a result of the meetings, preliminary agreements were reached on exporting some non-oil products to Japan.
