Annual Virtual Caspian Technical Conference kicks off

The Annual Virtual Caspian Technical Conference (CTC), organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) opened its virtual doors, Report informs.

Under the theme ‘Adapting to New Realities – Maximizing Efficiencies and Productivity’ the SPE conference includes three panel sessions exploring the current market situation faced by the E&P industry in Azerbaijan and the broader Caspian region.

During the first day of the conference, the first panel session ‘Maximizing Efficiencies in Today’s Evolving Landscape’ was moderated by Malcolm Forbes-Cable (Vice President of Energy at Wood Mackenzie) and heard from prominent speakers Maria Yunda (Manager Director Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, Schlumberger); Famil Khalafov (SOCAR AQS) and Terje Dahl (Vice President Subsurface Russia and Azerbaijan, Equinor).

In the Opening Ceremony Yashar Latifov, Vice President for Field Development from SOCAR discussed the importance of safety, environmental responsibility, quality, capital and operating efficiencies. He also acknowledged the preference for longer term and sustainable digital technologies, especially in the context of demographic and industry related changes.

Gary Jones, Regional President, Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey, BP appreciated the role of SPE in driving knowledge sharing and creating opportunities for members of the oil and gas community to enhance their technical and professional expertise.

Regis Agut, Managing Director, Total Energies Azerbaijan, emphasized the theme of the conference “Adapting to New Realities” and how it sums up the global situation for the whole of the oil and gas industry.

Being a recognized international platform and a key event for the Caspian oil and gas industry, the SPE conference annually brings together high-level organizations to discuss key oil and gas projects in the region. This year the conference is hosted by SOCAR along with sponsorship support from BP Azerbaijan, Schlumberger, Worley, TCO, TotalEnergies, Equinor, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, DeGolyer and MacNaughton and Intera.
