Hugo Chávez TV series faces backlash in country

Baku. 31 January. REPORT.AZ/ TV serial featuring life and activities of former Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez, El Comandante has been made in Columbia.

Report informs referring to the foreign media.

The series aims to retell the leftist leader’s improbable rise to power and his activities as president. Columbian actor Andres Parra plays Hugo Chaves in the film.

However, current president Nicolás Maduro and Chávez’s ex-wife denounced the series as imperialist “trash”. Protesters say that casting Parra, who previously played cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar, to depict Chávez is part of a rightwing, foreign-backed effort to tarnish the leader’s image.

The series will start to be shown this week in Latin America and next week in United States.

Notably, Hugo Chaves died in 2013.
