Paulo Bento resigns as South Korea coach amid World Cup in Qatar

Paulo Bento, after getting thrashed by Brazil in the last-16 of the World Cup 4-1, put an end to his stint as South Korea manager, Report informs via foreign media.

Paulo Bento, up until now the South Korea boss, announced, after losing against Brazil, that he will resign as manager of the Asian side after making the decision in September.

The manager, who had been in the role since 2018, said that he has told the players and the Federation about his decision.

"I'm happy with these four years of work. I want to thank them for their trust", Bento said after losing 4-1 to Brazil in the last-16 of the World Cup.

"At the moment, it's not easy to summarise everything that's happened in the World Cup, especially because it hasn't finished, I can only tell you about our journey, which has already come to an end. It has come to an end in a very fair way, we've got to congratulate Brazil because they were the better side", he emphasised.

"We can be proud of how we ended the game, just as we can be of the four years which have brought us here. What we did in the group stages was very good, for how we played, because we got to the last-16 for the third time in history", Bento added, who, just as he did in the pre-match press conference, criticised the lack of preparation time there was for the game - just 72 hours. "We weren't able to prepare like we wanted, and it was very difficult", he said.
