Spain may allow entry to foreign tourists after May 20

The EU is revising the Council Recommendation 2020/912 on the temporary restriction on non-essential travel into the EU and the possible lifting of such restrictions, and it is assumed that after May 20, Spain will become available to foreign tourists from third countries, Report informs referring to the Diario de Sevilla newspaper.

"The weakening of the recommendations is expected to occur by May 20, making it easier for foreign tourists from third countries to transit to Spain via the US or the UK," Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism Maria Reyes Maroto Illera said during the presentation of the campaign "You deserve Spain" aimed at strengthening position of the country as a leader among destinations for recreation," the newspaper writes.

Maroto noted that the purpose of the advertising campaign is to break the psychological barrier and get rid of travel fears, to encourage tourists to travel abroad this summer, primarily to Spain. It should also strengthen the country’s position as a holiday destination for the main entry markets: the UK, France, Germany, the countries of Northern and Eastern Europe.

In addition, Spain is promoting an EU initiative to allow entry of travelers without PCR tests and vaccinations from countries with low incidence of coronavirus.
