Baku. 15 February. REPORT.AZ/ In order to discuss the prospects for cooperation in the tourism sector, on February 14th the Ambassador of Mexico, Rodrigo Labardini, met with the President of the State Agency of Tourism of Azerbaijan, Fuad Naghiyev, and with the Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, Florian Sengstschmid.
At the meeting, the Azerbaijani side expressed interest in establishing contacts with the corresponding Mexican institutions and in extending bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism. Likewise, was presented the information on the functions of the Tourism Agency and the Board, as well as the statistical data of previous years. The way the tourism infrastructure in Azerbaijan contributes to the development of the sector to attract a greater number of foreign visitors was explained.
Ambassador Labardini, meanwhile, talked about the tourist potential of Mexico, noting that it is one of the six most visited countries in the world with more than 39 million tourists in 2017. He added that 42 million tourists are estimated for the present year. In addition, he mentioned that Mexico offers several types of tourism: cultural, historical, archaeological, gastronomic, romantic, health, adventure, etc. The tourism sector presents 9% of the national GDP.
Upon arriving in Mexico, tourists have the opportunity to travel not only in space, but also in time: to get to know pre-Hispanic monuments, colonial cities, modern megalopolises, the culture of indigenous peoples and much more. Visitors have the opportunity to discover the Magical Towns, as well as a series of components of the Non-Material Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Among the fascinating factors of Mexican tourism are also music, gastronomy, traditions, fairs and festivals. The richness of nature and biodiversity make recreation a full and living contact with flora and fauna. Exit to two oceans: the Atlantic and the Pacific, is one of the advantages for those who opt for maritime panoramas. The length of the coasts of Mexico constitutes 11 thousand km, which attracts admirers for maritime landscapes and impressive beaches.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed that the exchange of experiences and good practices will encourage the development of tourism in both countries.
