Mass travels of Chinese tourists to Azerbaijan being resumed

The visit of the first group from China to Azerbaijan took place after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Report informs, citing the State Tourism Agency.

In 2019, the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China signed a memorandum of understanding on simplifying group visits of Chinese tourists to Azerbaijan.

According to the memorandum, Azerbaijan is included in the list of countries where Chinese tourists can travel.

In the coming years, it is planned to intensively resume marketing and promotion work in China and hold events aimed at increasing the number of Chinese tourists. Within the framework of the simplified visa regime for citizens of the People's Republic of China, the ASAN Visa electronic system is applied. Currently, flights from Urumqi to Baku are carried out once a week.

A total of 1,279 people traveled from China to Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2023, which means a 3.5 times increase compared to the same period last year and a 40% recovery compared to the same period of 2019.
