Fuad Nagiyev: Islamic countries account for 55% of tourists visiting Azerbaijan

President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva have done much to develop tourism, Fuad Nagiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency, said at the 11th session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Report informs.

According to him, 55% of tourists visiting Azerbaijan are from Islamic countries. However, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had a negative impact on tourism in Azerbaijan, as in all countries:

"The number of tourists after the pandemic continues to grow. In the first five months of this year alone, the number of visitors increased by 118% compared to last year. We want to make Azerbaijan one of the best tourist destinations. During the occupation, Armenia destroyed Azerbaijani lands. But tomorrow, you will visit Shusha and see how the construction work is going on here."
