Egypt to reopen ancient sites for tourists

The Egyptian authorities are planning to open pyramids and museums to tourists from September 1. The guests will be able to visit museums and archaeological sites, including the pyramids of Giza, temple complexes in Luxor and Aswan, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

The country will lift all restrictions on visiting between provinces and cities for Egyptians and foreigners, while cruises on the Nile will be resumed from October.

Cultural tourism and river cruises in Egypt were suspended in early August: the display sites were closed, and tourists were not allowed to leave the resort areas. According to unofficial information, the reason for such restrictions was the coronavirus outbreak in Cairo.

Last week, all those arriving in the country were required to submit a negative test for COVID-19.
