11.6% of hotels and hotel-type facilities in Azerbaijan are located in the territories held under Armenian occupation for 30 years, the State Tourism Agency said in response to Report's inquiry.
In addition, the agency stated that 11.1% of the country's tourists' overnight stays were in the occupied territories.
"Taking this into account, according to the officially announced and probable indicators estimates, 33 million tourists could not visit those areas due to the occupation of 20% of the country's territory for 30 years. At the same time, the loss of GDP production in areas typical for tourism was more than $5 billion," said the agency's statement.
Azerbaijan liberated its lands after the 44-day Patriotic War in the fall of 2020.
