Latvian basketball player Janis Timma has reportedly been found dead in Moscow, just a few weeks after he took a controversial decision to play professionally in Russia, Report informs via LMS.
Lithuanian and Russian media reported that the body of the 32-year-old had been found, though accounts seemed to differ over whether he was found in a residential building or a hotel. The death was reported by the official TASS news agency. No cause of death was stated.
As previously reported by LSM, Timma announced in October he intended to play professionally in Russia despite that country's invasion of Ukraine. His move sparked a backlash and signaled the end of his international career as Latvian athletes are banned from participating in Russian sports events.
