Japan to pay additional costs for delayed Olympics Games

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that the country would cover additional costs due to the postponement of the summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Report says, citing TASS.

In a question and answer post on its website, the IOC said Abe had “agreed that Japan would continue to cover the costs it would have done under the terms of the existing agreement for 2020, and the IOC will continue to be responsible for its share of the costs.”

“For the IOC, it is already clear that this amounts to several hundred millions of dollars of additional costs.”

The Tokyo Games were postponed to 2021 due to the threat of coronavirus pandemic.

By the latest data, more than 170 thousand people have died from COVID-19 so far, while 652 thousand recovered. The total number of cases exceeded 2.4 million.
