Deputy Minister: 50 percent of Azerbaijani citizens are younger than 29

Baku. 23 January. REPORT.AZ/ "Young people aged 14-29 constitute 25 percent of Azerbaijan's population, which creates a basis for the government to conduct a long-term policy. If we take into account the children, 50 percent of Azerbaijani citizens are younger than 29," Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan Matin Karimli said.

Report informs that he spoke at the conference on the topic "Youth Employment: Employers' Views, Challenges and Perspectives".

According to him, today the unemployment rate among young people aged 14-29 amounts to 9.2% in the country: "This is twice as high as the general unemployment rate in the country. This tendency is observed all over the world. Increasing youth employment is an integral part of the Azerbaijani government's employment policy."

Karimli noted that Azerbaijan is one of the few countries in the CIS and East Europe, where young people constitute more than one hundred young people: "Nearly 100,000 young people enter the labor market each year. There is a common responsibility on youth employment."
