Ombudsperson: 52% of First Karabakh War refugees and IDPs were women

The majority of refugees and internally displaced persons from the First Karabakh War, more precisely 52%, were women, Ombudsperson Sabina Aliyeva said while speaking at the 6th Congress of Azerbaijani Women in Baku, Report informs.

The Ombudsperson also noted that there were 267 women among the approximately 4,000 Azerbaijanis who went missing during the First Karabakh War.

“Unfortunately, despite repeated requests, Armenia has not yet provided any information about their fate. During all armed conflicts, wars and natural disasters, it is women and children who suffer the most,” Aliyeva said.
