Azerbaijan prepares a bill on legal regulation of surnames - EXCLUSIVE

"A new bill is prepared in Azerbaijan to regulate surnames from a legal point of view."

Deputy Chairman of the Terminology Commission, Professor Sayali Sadigova told Report.

According to her, the Terminological Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers submitted appeals to the Ministry of Justice to change and obtain new surnames.

Sadigova said that the new bill of the Ministry of Justice related to the regulation of surnames from the legal standpoint will be discussed in the Milli Majlis: "Final opinion will be expressed after consideration in the Ministry of Justice of appeals received by the Special Commission on names and surnames created under the Terminology Commission. Now the Ministry of Justice is preparing a new bill. The project is expected to be presented to the Milli Majlis. Since appeals in connection with the replacement of names should be regulated from a legal point of view. Now we cannot give either a positive or a negative response to the request on the change of surnames, as it requires research and different procedures. We have documented this and submitted it to the Ministry of Justice."
