Azerbaijan – among leading countries in post-Soviet space for population growth

Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries in the post-Soviet space in population growth.

Report informs, referring to the Tajik portal ASIA Plus, that according to the World Bank, the population growth is high in Azerbaijan (+ 40%).

Tajikistan has seen the largest population growth in 31 years since the collapse of the Soviet Union. During this period, the population of Tajikistan increased by 76.6%.

Other Central Asian countries are also on the list: Uzbekistan (+ 63.4%), Turkmenistan (+ 59.2%), Kyrgyzstan (+47.7%), and Kazakhstan (+14%).

The lowest birth rates were recorded in the Baltic countries: Latvia (-28.3%), Lithuania (-24.5%). The list also includes Georgia (-23.2%), Ukraine (-20%), Armenia (-15.5%), Estonia (-14.7%), Moldova (-12%), Belarus ( - 7.8%) and Russia (-2.9%).
