Patriarch Kirill: Today’s dialogue between spiritual leaders of Azerbaijan & Armenia will become example for everyone

“I believe that the authority of the spiritual leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia can have a beneficial effect on the minds of people, and that the very fact of today’s meeting and the dialogue between you will become an example for everyone,” said Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, opening a trilateral meeting of the religious leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia in Moscow, Russian bureau of Report informs.

At the meeting, Patriarch Kirill highly appreciated the arrival of the religious leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia to the capital of Russia. He noted that this meeting will make a huge contribution to resolving a large number of issues in the region.

“Today we are here to discuss the problem of overcoming the consequences of the long-lasting conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, in which the peoples of both Azerbaijan and Armenia are involved. For nearly 30 years, we, the religious people, have been working to mitigate this tragic confrontation. I am grateful for readiness to come to Moscow and sit down at the negotiating table,” he said.

The patriarch expressed hope that during the meeting, mutual understanding will be reached, “which will contribute to the achievement of a lasting peace in the ancient Caucasian land.”

A trilateral meeting of religious leaders - Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill I and Armenian Catholicos Karekin II – started in Moscow.

On October 12, Moscow hosted a bilateral meeting between Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill I.
