ICESCO official: Existing global security system seems helpless in preventing Islamophobia

The existing global security system seems helpless in preventing Islamophobia, Mohamed Hedi Shili, Director of the Legal Affairs and International Standards Department at ICESCO, said at the international conference themed "Islamophobia in Focus: Unveiling Bias, Shattering Stigmas" in Baku, Report informs.

Shili noted that currently, 35 percent of Muslims worldwide face problems with renting housing solely due to their religious affiliation:

"Some 45 percent of women wearing hijab face discrimination in the workplace. The proportion of Muslims subjected to racial discrimination is at 27 percent. In the field of education, the proportion of Muslims subjected to violence in schools is 30 percent. The question arises, is the current security system helpless in preventing such problems? What is happening makes it necessary to strengthen the security system."

The ICESCO official believes that today the UN plays an important role in eliminating discrimination on a global scale.
