Baku bids farewell to former head of Azerbaijani Mountain Jews

Israeli Ambassador George Deek took part in the farewell ceremony for the former head of the community of Mountain Jews of Azerbaijan, Semyon Ikhilov, Report informs.

"This morning, together with leaders of the Muslim, Christian and Jewish communities in Baku, we bid a last farewell to the former leader of the Mountainous Jewish Community of Azerbaijan," the Israeli ambassador tweeted.

Semyon Borisovich Ikhilov was born on December 9, 1940 in the Girmizi Gasaba settlement of Azerbaijan's Guba district. In 1957, he graduated from school No. 171 in Baku, then received secondary and higher education in civil engineering. In 2000, President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev awarded Semyon Ikhilov with the country's highest award - the Order of Glory.
