The construction of an American military base in Georgia is inexpedient and can be interpreted as a provocation, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with the Georgian editorial staff of the Voice of America radio station.
"I would not recommend doing this. This country is in a place where security needs to be enhanced. There is no need to take such steps, which can be perceived as a provocation. And at the same time, I do not think that the United States is ready to have a military base here that will attract the attention of not only Russia, but also of terrorist movements that are very actively represented in our region," Zurabishvili said.
According to her, Georgia should deepen relations with US, but not take such steps that provoke other countries.
