Ukraine is not discussing the issue of territorial integrity with its partners during negotiations on ending the war. Such discussions would contradict the Constitution, stated Serhiy Leshchenko, Advisor to the head of the Office of the President, Report informs via RBC-Ukraine.
"All negotiators attending meetings, whether in Saudi Arabia or France, clearly state that the issue of Ukraine’s territorial integrity is not up for discussion. Even the Constitution of Ukraine contains numerous prohibitions and limitations, and the media landscape is filled with this messaging," he emphasized, commenting on rumors that Washington might recognize Crimea as Russian.
According to him, similar rumors were spread 10 years ago. Donald Trump also commented on this issue.
"Back before his first term in the summer of 2016, Trump also said that the people of Crimea would rather be with Russia than where they were. Such statements were made regularly 10 years ago, but they did not develop further. We must focus on defending our Ukrainian national interests,” Leshchenko said.
Bloomberg previously stated, citing sources, that the US might consider recognizing the annexation of Crimea.
However, the Wall Street Journal later revealed that Washington is awaiting Kyiv’s reaction to such ideas regarding the temporarily occupied Ukrainian peninsula.
