Zakharova: Western countries have no agenda for South Caucasus other than destructive

Western countries have no other agenda for the South Caucasus region than a destructive one, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, commenting on the visit of French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourné to Armenia and his statements that Moscow is trying to put pressure on Yerevan, Report informs.

"What is there to comment on? An absolutely talentless figure in terms of diplomacy, who once again demonstrated his talentlessness, ignorance of history, ignorance of traditions. And, in my opinion, this was talentless and stupid in relation to Russia, and disrespectful in relation to the country he visited, Armenia. But on the other hand, we have recorded and repeatedly commented on the fact that Western countries have no other agenda for this region than destructive one,” Zakharova noted, answering a question from News.ru.

She added that the policy of Western countries is not aimed at ensuring peace in the South Caucasus.

“All they need is to pit the countries of this region against each other. They do not help in development, they do not help in solving problems, they are not ready to do everything needed to separate the conflicting parties, do you understand? They are ready only to pit, humiliate, insult and destroy. This is another manifestation of this,” Zakharova noted.

The official representative of the MFA also expressed bewilderment at the lack of reaction from Armenian officials to Sejourne's anti-Russian statements.

“Frankly speaking, it is surprising that our allies, our brothers, our partners, our neighbors, our friends, I mean the political leadership and officials and representatives, including the public in Armenia, do not react to this. If someone had said something like this about our friends, we would have found a way to pull them up short and remind them that our history does not allow such a derogatory attitude towards it from third parties,” Zakharova added.
