Forest fire in Canakkale, Türkiye is under control, says minister

The forest fire started yesterday in Türkiye's Canakkale province is under control, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye İbrahim Yumakli said, Report informs via TRT Haber.

According to him, the intervention to the fire, which started in the rural areas of Eceabat, Canakkale at 16:05 (GMT+3) yesterday and spread to the forest, started yesterday at 16:11.

"As of now, we have made our final checks regarding this fire. In fact, we checked whether it would be possible for some places to become active again due to very intense and strong winds for more than 2 hours. We passed over the entire area twice and as of now, I can say that the fire in Eceabat, Canakkale is under control," the minister said.

Wildfires have erupted across forests in three Turkish provinces, leading to emergency evacuations, Report informs via TRT Haber.

The fires began yesterday and have persisted into today, affecting the provinces of Canakkale and Usak. Additionally, a blaze that ignited overnight in Izmir Province’s Dikili district has expanded due to strong winds.

Efforts to quell the flames from both the air and ground are currently in progress across all affected areas.

In Usak, residents from several homes have been evacuated as a precaution. Meanwhile, in Izmir, property damage has been reported, including a fish farm and a residential building.

As of now, there have been no reports of fatalities or injuries.
