US State Department says necessary to replace Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh

The US State Department believes that Russian peacekeepers in the Karabakh economic region of Azerbaijan need to be replaced, said Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien, speaking at the Foreign Relations Committee of the US Congress, Report informs.

Russian troops are present there, this is their first term, according to the 2020 ceasefire statement. If there is an alternative for Azerbaijan and Armenia, the participation of Russian peacekeepers will no longer be needed. They have already failed in their task as peacekeepers, the diplomat noted.

He added that the US is ready to offer an alternative to Russian peacekeepers.
