An armed attack was carried out by an unknown person on the building where the regional press service of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces) is located in the city of Saravan in southeastern Iran, Report informs with reference to ISNA.
The officers in the building showed a resolute resistance. The gunman was killed. One of the local civilians was wounded.
The city of Saravan is located in the province of Sistan and Balochistan, one of the sources of tension in Iran. It borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, and most of the drug trafficking from abroad, as well as a significant part of the smuggling of fuel and other goods, takes place in this area. Besides, several separatist and Islamist groups operate in the province.
