The war in Ukraine has killed nearly 100 children over the past month, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Omar Abdi said at the UN Security Council Meeting on the maintenance of peace and security in Ukraine, Report informs, citing Ukrinform.
"As each day passes, more Ukrainian children are exposed to the horrors of this war. In just this past month, the UN verified that nearly 100 children were killed, and we believe the actual figures to be considerably higher," Abdi said.
"The war in Ukraine, like all wars, is a child protection and child rights crisis," Abdi stressed.
According to Abdi, due to the war, children are deprived of their right to education, and remote learning can only be a temporary solution.
A reminder that, as of May 11, 2022, a total of 226 children had been killed and 417 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
