Ukrainian FM to sue Russia for destroying foreign diplomatic missions

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the shelling of the buildings of the diplomatic missions of Greece, Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Albania in the country by Russian forces, the Ministry said in a statement, UNIAN reports.

"The Russian military's missile strikes destroyed the buildings of the Greek Consulate General and the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Mariupol, as well as the honorary consulates of Slovenia, Azerbaijan and Albania in Kharkiv," the statement said.

The Ministry said that Russia's armed attack on the buildings of diplomatic missions is a gross violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and international humanitarian law.

The Foreign Ministry has called on the international community to condemn the deaths and injuries of civilians and children as a result of Russia's barbaric shelling of civilian facilities in Ukraine. The Ministry said it would appeal to an international court to prosecute Russia for the demolition of foreign diplomatic missions in Ukraine.
