Ukraine and Russia begin prisoner exchange talks after Kursk clashes

Ukraine and Russia have initiated talks regarding the exchange of prisoners of war captured in the Kursk region, according to Report, which cites The Financial Times.

The Ukrainian military intelligence confirmed to the publication that work is underway to prepare for the exchange.

While the exact number of Russian soldiers captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces during their incursion into the Kursk region has not been disclosed, the publication noted that government and military representatives suggest the figure could be in the hundreds. Among the captured are many young conscripts.

The negotiations between the two countries began after 10 days of intense fighting in the Kursk region. A source within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) revealed that on August 14, SBU special forces captured 102 Russian military personnel in the Kursk region, including soldiers from the 488th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment of the Russian Armed Forces and the "Akhmat" unit.
