Two infants die from measles in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan has reported two infant deaths due to measles, Deputy Minister of Health Aizhan Esmagambetova said, Report informs via Kazakh media.

"Two deaths have been registered in Astana and the East Kazakhstan region. These are children under one year old, that is, children who have not reached the age of vaccination," she said on the sidelines of the Senate.

According to her, another 15 children are in serious condition.

According to the press service of the National Center for Public Health of Kazakhstan, 26,815 cases of measles infection have been officially registered in the republic since the beginning of the year.

The Ministry of Health said that at the beginning of December, the frequency of measles cases in the country already exceeded 88.9 per 100,000 people. At the end of October, this figure was 69 cases per 100,000 people.

“Judging by the long-term dynamics, this year Kazakhstan is experiencing the largest outbreak of measles in the last decade. This year there are already significantly more cases than in the difficult 'pre-pandemic' 2019, when the number of those who recovered from the disease exceeded 13,400 people," the message notes.
