Turkiye-US negotiations held in Washington

A regular meeting of the Turkiye-US Strategic Consultative Mechanism has been held in Washington, Report informs referring to Anadolu Agency.

The Turkish delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sedat Onal. From the American side, the meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland.

A joint statement following the third round of talks notes that the parties reaffirmed the close cooperation between the two NATO allies and exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as strategic and global issues.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the world, as well as to further develop and strengthen the partnership between Turkiye and the US in the field of defense.

They expressed satisfaction with the recent growth of bilateral trade relations and stressed their determination to further develop economic cooperation in all areas.

The parties also stated that Turkiye and the US have a common desire to support global health, food and energy security, and stressed that they will work together to strengthen energy supply.

An exchange of views took place on political developments in the region, the importance of strengthening transatlantic relations. The need to combat all forms and manifestations of terrorism was stressed.

The delegations noted that they fully support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, and also discussed the possibilities of further strengthening the unity of NATO and coordination between them.

During the talks, the US expressed satisfaction with Turkiye’s mediation efforts to implement the Istanbul agreement on the safe transportation of Ukrainian grain across the Black Sea.

In addition, the parties assessed the opportunities for cooperation between Turkiye and the US in various regions, including the Middle East and Africa, and stressed the importance of strengthening peace in the South Caucasus.
