Türkiye may ratify Sweden’s NATO membership by end of next week

Türkiye’s parliament may ratify Sweden's NATO membership by the end of next week, Report informs referring to TASS, citing CNN TÜRK TV channel.

Sweden's application must first be accepted by the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee. Then it will go to the General Assembly of the Parliament. After approval and publication in the government's Resmi Gazete signed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the process of approval of Sweden's membership in NATO by Ankara will be completed.

On July 10, Erdogan linked the prospect of approving Stockholm's NATO bid to removing obstacles to Ankara's path to the European Union, drawing criticism from the European political establishment who saw his words as blackmail. Later, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the Turkish leader agreed to submit the protocol on the admission of Sweden to NATO for ratification to parliament as soon as possible and work with him to ratify this document as soon as possible.
