The first power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, which Russia is building in Türkiye, is planned to be commissioned in 2025, Turkish Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar said, Report informs referring to TASS.

Earlier, among the possible dates for the launch of the plant, the Turkish authorities named October 29, when the national holiday - Turkish Republic Day - is celebrated.

However, they subsequently reported that due to problems with the supply of equipment from Germany, the dates could be postponed to a later date.

"The first power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is planned to be commissioned in 2025, all four - by 2028. After the plant is fully commissioned, it will be able to meet 10% of Türkiye's electricity needs," the Aksam newspaper quotes the minister as saying.

He noted that Türkiye's transition to the use of nuclear energy will reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 30 million tons per year.

"This is extremely important both from the point of view of ensuring Türkiye's energy security and combating climate change," the minister noted.
