Sweden hasn’t yet granted any of Türkiye’s 28 extradition requests for terrorists, Turkish Minister of Justice Yilmaz Tunc said on the air of the A-Haber TV channel, Report informs referring to TASS.
“We sent Sweden 28 requests for the extradition of persons associated with terrorist groups. Unfortunately, 22 of them were refused. Nine requests were for members of the PKK, eight for the FETO terrorist group, five for members of other organizations. Three requests were denied on cause of death of the defendants or similar circumstances. Three requests are pending a response. But the Swedish judiciary has already reported a negative decision on these requests,” the minister said.
Tunc reminded that Sweden declares its intention to become part of NATO and Türkiye’s partner in the alliance. “This issue, the approval of the application, will be on the agenda of our parliament. And the parliament will take into account all the nuances during the discussion. Our expectations from Sweden are clear: we expect Stockholm to extradite terrorists to us. But there is no progress on this issue,” the minister said.
He added that since June, a new anti-terrorism law has come into force in Sweden. “Of course, the wording in such laws is usually quite broad. That is why it is important how it is implemented in practice. In addition to the issue of extradition of terrorists, there is the problem of incidents with desecration of the Quran in Sweden. We expect that this will be stopped,” Tunc said.
