Turkish Interior Ministry: Over 6,600 foreigners killed in earthquakes

Of the 48,400 people who died as a result of earthquakes in Türkiye, 6,600 people were foreigners, mostly Syrians, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said, Report informs via Hürriyet newspaper.

"At the moment, we know about 48,448 deaths. The number of foreign citizens who died due to the earthquakes is 6,660," Soylu said during a press conference.

About 85,000 people are provided with temporary shelter.

On the night of February 6, an earthquake of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in the southeast of Türkiye. The shocks were also felt in Syria, Libya, Lebanon and other countries in the region. The UN has suggested that the total damage from the disaster could exceed $100 billion.
