Turkish diplomat: Return of Azerbaijani villages is main factor for restoration of peace in South Caucasus

For the restoration of permanent peace in the South Caucasus, the return of occupied Azerbaijani villages by Armenia is the main factor, the Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the United Nations, Ahmet Yıldız, told Report.

He emphasized that Armenia’s return of 4 villages of Gazakh to Azerbaijan means, first of all, that it values a historical opportunity for itself: “It should be appreciated that Armenia understands its responsibility and moves in the right direction. At the same time, it is necessary for Armenia to come to an agreement regarding the territories mined during the occupation. All these are issues that will have a positive impact on Armenia’s economy.”

Ahmet Yıldız, emphasizing that these issues were discussed a lot during the period when he was the chairman of the Turkish delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), noted that Türkiye, as usual, still stands on the side of the right: “Together with the Azerbaijani delegation, Türkiye discussed these issues a lot in the Council of Europe, and these negotiations are still ongoing. Much was said about the injustice committed against Azerbaijan and taking the side of Armenia. With its principled position, Türkiye has played an important role in solving many issues, and one of them is the restoration of permanent peace in the South Caucasus region.”
